History [ edit ]
In 1998, the district board members conducted a public opinion survey on bus services to the residents of Sun Tak Estate . They included the choice of starting a bus route to Kowloon West or Kowloon Central. The survey results show that residents are interested in starting a bus service to and from Kowloon West, which is 30% higher than opening a shuttle bus to Kowloon Central. Therefore, Suntech Village does not have a bus route to and from Wong Tai Sin District . Residents can only take the Route 296A to Kwun Tong Town Centre and change to other routes.
In 1999, the TD invited four local franchised bus companies to bid for seven Tseung Kwan O South Bus routes including the line (modified from the KMB route 296B). The result was awarded by NWFB. Its Managing Director stated that This is the first step NWFB has made in rushing out of Hong Kong Island. It is a "new site." The line was formally launched at the end of the original plan in late 2001. It is also consistent with the starting point listed at the time of bidding. NWFB has packaged the line as a shopping and leisure route through several large shopping malls such as Festival Walk , Lok FuShopping Centre and Kowloon City Plaza . Plaza Hollywood , Telford Plaza and so on, most of the car to put Poodle endorsement of this line of body advertising [3] to promote to the public in different regions.
However, this route was influenced by factors such as customer sources, competitors, and the design of roads in Tseung Kwan O South. The passenger volume was not satisfactory. Residents of Sun Tak Village have become accustomed to using the Octopus interchange privilege , taking 296A to Kwun Tong and transferring to other KMB routes, while the Kowloon Motor Bus Route 296C overlaps with the line at Kwun Tong Road .
In August 2002, the opening of the MTR Tseung Kwan O Line and the extension of the Kwun Tong Line to Tiu Keng Leng Station saw the passenger volume drop to a new low, indirectly causing the line to become a deputy to the MTR, and the frequency of trains was continuously reduced. In view of this, NWFB made changes to the route to speed up the journey time, and increased Octopus bus interchange privilege. However, there was no improvement in the passenger volume.
In the period of SARS raging in 2003, part of the service was relocated to single-decker buses to increase the capacity of each bus. In the absence of a sufficient source of tourists, this move failed to reverse the poor operating conditions. Therefore, NWFB decided to reduce the number of flights, post a timetable at the bus stop, and conduct the final diversion in 2007 to make the final confrontation with the MTR . However, the passenger volume has not risen as a result. On June 8, 2008, due to the five bus fare increase, the fare for the first time was adjusted by the line. The full-time fare increase was 5.7% ($7 → $7.4), and the increase in sub-class fare in Kwun Tong to Tiu Keng Leng was closer to 7%. One of the major competitors’ 296C (only additional subsector fees were charged on the same day, and the full fare remains unchanged at $7.2). The whole fare is 2 cents more expensive, plus the shift has been curtailed by the most sparse 30 minutes to further strike. This line passenger volume.
In early 2010, NWFB plans to open a new route ( 798 ) to and from Tseung Kwan O and Sha Tin . The prerequisite is to cancel this line and the 797M line and transfer the resources to the new line. After several rounds of Sha Tin and Sai Kung District Council members and NWFB and Transport Department wrestled with each other, the final 798 line commenced service on October 10, 2010. The same route was suspended from service on the same day. [4]
Since then, there are no bus routes to and from Wong Tai Sin District in the southern part of Tseung Kwan O (excluding the airport bus route) . Only after the Kowloon Bus Lines 290 and 290A areopened on March 28, 2015, will buses pass through Wong Tai Sin District.
Chronology [ edit ]

- December 22, 2002: Towards Tiong Keng Leng, the restoration will take place via Fung Tak Road ( Chi Lin Nunnery ), Choi Hung Village and Kwun Tong Road ( Kai Yi Estate ).
- June 10, 2007: Simplified the driving route in Tseung Kwan O area and changed it to and from Baojing Road , Tangming Street and Baoshun Road . It will no longer pass Baoying Garden to a section of Tangjun Street and Zhishan Street .
- Early 2010: NWFB plans to open a new route between Tseung Kwan O and Sha Tin. Conditions include the cancellation of this line and the transfer of resources to the new line.
- March 7, 2010: 4 pm, a walking route to this Tiu Keng Leng railway station direction Regal Super Olympian 12 meters (5029 / JD9654) strayed Bamboo Garden channel and trapped, resulting in Bamboo Street Closed for nearly 6 hours across the entire line, all vehicles cannot enter or leave Tsui Chuk Garden. At the same time, the KMB 211 line cannot enter the Tsui Chuk Garden Terminus. Tian Hong Primary School is required as a temporary terminal. As four 211-lane vehicles were trapped in Tsui Chuk Garden, KMB sent two additional 12-metre double-decker buses (3ASV246/KG4410 and ATE40/LB6946) to indirectly make the first double-decker bus on Route 211. [5]
- October 10, 2010: The route is out of service. [6]
